TONMA Pruning Shears Care & Maintenance

TONMA pruning shears are made with Japanese SK5 high-carbon steel, selected for its high hardness, sharp cutting performance, and excellent edge retention. Because high-carbon steel contains more carbon than ordinary stainless steel, it requires proper care to help prevent surface rust.

After each use, remove sap, moisture, and plant residue from the blades. If needed, rinse the blades with clean water, then wipe and dry them thoroughly with a clean cloth before storage. Avoid leaving the shears wet or exposed to moisture for extended periods.

For additional protection, occasionally apply a light coat of lubricating oil to the blades and pivot area. Proper cleaning, drying, and lubrication will help prevent corrosion, maintain smooth operation, and keep the blades sharp and durable for long-term use.

SK-5 is high-carbon tool grade steel from Japan, the hardest available on the market（HRC: 59±1）.
